CTK/Export ---------------------------------------------------------------- Spidla announces resignation to govt, will hand it in Thursday (adds info from press conference)
PRAGUE, July 2 (CTK) - Premier Vladimir Spidla, as expected, announced his decision to resign to the ministers at the cabinet meeting on Wednesday evening, a source close to the government has told CTK.
Spidla will officially hand in his resignation, which automatically implies the fall of the whole government, to President Vaclav Klaus on Thursday.
Spidla's team will probably be asked to operate until a new cabinet is appointed.
The coalition government of the Social Democrats (CSSD), the centrist Christian Democrats (KDU-CSL) and the right-wing Freedom Union (US-DEU) collapsed after almost two years in power, following Spidla's recent decision to resign, also as the senior ruling CSSD chairman, over a low support he enjoyed among his CSSD colleagues.
