Vietnam and China witnessed the presidential ratification in Hanoi yesterday of an agreement on territorial water demarcations, exclusive economic zones and continental shelves in the Vinh Bac Bo (Gulf of Tonkin).
The demarcation agreement, signed in Beijing on December 25, 2000 became effective on June 30, 2004, which was also the start date for the two countries' agreement on fishing cooperation in the Tonkin Gulf.
The signing of the Tonkin Gulf demarcation and fishing cooperation agreements followed the finalization of the two countries' land border treaty at the end of 1999.
