NEW DELHI, July 1 Asia Pulse - Raw sugar imports are not restricted to mills in south India or coastal areas alone, with one factory in Uttar Pradesh importing 50,000 tonnes from Brazil.
The imported raw sugar can be downloaded in the domestic market as there is a 18-month period to meet export commitments arising out of duty-free imports against advance licence scheme.
"We have imported 50,000 tonnes from Brazil in two-cargoes contracted at US$204 and US$214 a tonne, cost and freight (C&F), delivered at Kandla port", Vice Chairman, Dhampur Sugar Mills, Ashok Kumar Goel told PTI.
He said the quantity will be processed in two-months time, during the off-season itself as the mill had preserved fuel for the purpose during the time of crushing.
