SEOUL, July 1 Asia Pulse - LG Electronics Inc., (KSE:066570), South Korea's second-largest electronics maker, said Thursday it has decided to sell digital cameras in the third quarter of this year, hoping to increase its consumer business.
The decision is expected to intensify a fierce competition in South Korea's fast-growing digital camera market, where Japanese manufacturers such as Olympus and Sony and local company Samsung Techwin Co., are struggling to boost sales.
The move was widely expected when LG Electronics earlier this year made inroads into flash memory cards, which are mainly used for mobile devices such as personal digital assistants, MP3 players and digital cameras.
