ALBERT Martinez's acceptance speech after he won the best supporting actor award at the Manila Film Festival was quite a blooper but he's got enough charm to be able to get away with it.
Albert said "Mayor Lim" twice when he was referring to Manila Mayor Lito Atienza in his speech, but he was quick to apologize to Atienza, who took it all in stride. Perhaps the tension building up for the Film Academy Awards (on July 3), which Albert is producing, is taking its toll on him. He has such grandiose plans for the FAP affair, and knowing how meticulous Albert is, I'm pretty sure everything will materialize. It's just sad that some sectors want to pull him down by dragging his name in intrigues.
Albert remains unperturbed. "I'd rather not react," he said. "Baka sumikat pa sila. Instead I'm focusing my energies on making the Film Academy Awards a first of its kind, our own version of Hollywood from start to finish."
Yul's 'mahal'
MANY viewers wondered what film fest best actor Yul Servo exactly meant when he referred to Aleck Bovick as "Ang mahal ko" in his victory speech. Before receiving his trophy, Yul sat cozily beside Aleck. It could be just a friendly term of endearment, or it could be more than that. Only Yul and Aleck know for sure. So what happens now to DJ Alvaro?
