NO SACRED cows.
Ranking officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways are being investigated for graft, said the office of the Ombudsman yesterday, and no official will be considered "untouchable."
Meanwhile, dismissed Public Works Undersecretary Salvador Pleyto accused the Ombudsman of allegedly ignoring tax documents he had submitted to prove that his wealth was not ill-gotten.
"Our graft investigators are going over the cases of other ranking DPWH officials. There are no sacred cows in the conduct of the lifestyle check program," said Assistant Ombudsman Ernesto Nocos, who also serves as the spokesperson of the anti-graft office.
He was reacting to Pleyto's complaint of being singled out for investigation and that the Ombudsman officials in the government's Lifestyle Check Coalition allegedly turned a blind eye on graft cases of influential, but more corrupt officials.
