(From Philippine Daily Inquirer)
PILI, Camarines Sur-As the nation observed yesterday the handover of governance to newly elected officials, Camarines Sur marked the changing of the guard from father to son.
Gov. and now Rep. Luis R. Villafuerte Sr. turned over yesterday to his son, Luis Raymund "LRay" Villafuerte Jr., the reigns of the Camarines Sur government after nine consecutive years in service.
LRay is the third Villafuerte to occupy the gubernatorial post while the first one was his grandfather, Mariano Villafuerte Sr.
In the 60-year history of Camarines Sur politics, the Villafuertes achieved a remarkable victory no other political clan has attained. It is first in the history of Camarines Sur that the elected governor is the son of the outgoing governor.
But more than the victories of the Villafuertes is the reinforced political dominance dictated by the political powers that go with a seat in Congress and the office of the governor.
The other three political clans in Camarines Sur-the Fuentebellas, the Andayas and the Alfelors-failed in their bids to capture the most strategic elective posts even as they were reelected legislators in their districts.
