Anaheim's David Eckstein: a giant contributor to club's success. (Small in Stature ... Big at Heart ... Huge in Angels' Eyes).

DAVID ECKSTEIN SAYS VERY LITTLE. No pun intended.

OK, OK. Pun intended.

Sorry.

See? There's another one. A short joke.

Eckstein, the shortstop who has to laugh along with everyone else at the Anaheim Angels' generous listing of him as 5-foot-8, has heard a million of `em. Even told a few of them himself.

"I've always been little," Eckstein said, "even back when I was little."

Not the least bit reluctant to admit he's really only 5-6 and a half, and not the least bit sensitive about it, Eckstein, 27, doesn't even flinch when asked to recount a story that is doomed to follow him for as long as has a major leaguer.
