FARMERS need no introduction to agricultural lime. After drainage, it is the most important aspect of soil husbandry, which farmers all over the world have recognised as playing a major role in overall profitability.

Joseph Morton Ltd, of Banbridge, has been distributing granulated lime since it introduced the product, Granucal, in 2000.

Local Omya UK manager, Sam Higgins, said: "Granucal has many advantages over other materials used to counter soil acidity and is now an accepted method to raise soil pH.

"It is similar to a granular fertiliser and, unlike ground limestone, can be applied accurately by using conventional distributors. When ground conditions allow, it can be spread all year round.''

He added: "Liming contractors are finding it difficult to satisfy all their customers during the busy spring and autumn periods.
