CONSUMER REPORTS does the American people a great service by reporting in the May issue on nutritional supplements in "Dangerous Supplements Still at Large." But your solution to this problem--giving the FDA total control--is the wrong one. The solution is to let the markets function. If respectable organizations like Consumers Union start making people aware of the dangers and/or discrepancies in quality and let people know that the government is not and cannot take care of this for them, soon organizations similar to Underwriters Laboratories will be grading suppliers.
