The Chattanooga Area Student Chapter (CASC) has been selected as the Collegiate Chapter of the Year. CASC is a multi-school collegiate chapter for the Chattanooga area and was created several years ago to provide a chapter for a few small music departments within an hour of each other. The result has been the development of a citywide camaraderie among collegiate music majors, allowing them to share ideas between schools, support each other's concerts and recitals and sponsor significant workshops, master classes and cooperative recitals. Under the leadership of co-advisors Sigrid Luther, NCTM, and Sin-hsing Tsai and Mary Tomyn, chapter president, the chapter has grown to twenty-two members.
The 2003-2004 school year has been a busy year for the chapter. In the fall, officers met to discuss ideas and plan events for the year. During this meeting chapter leaders focused on the unique challenges their chapter faced, such as communication among campuses, coordination of school calendars and locating good student leadership on the campuses that do not have an advisor.
