"Where the Sidewalk Ends," by Linda Holzer, NCTM, was selected as the 2003 American Music Teacher Article of the Year. This article, whose title is taken from a Shel Silverstein book, provides music teachers with insights and approaches to career guidance for music majors as they near graduation. It appeared in the April/May 2003 issue of AMT. In the article, Holzer also presents a strong case for curriculum reform, innovative programs and real-world advising. It's must reading for anyone who wants to help music majors connect with the musical community after graduation.
