Liduino Pitombeira has been selected as the 2003 MTNA-Shepherd Distinguished Composer of the Year for his composition Brazilian Landscapes. Pitombeira is presently pursuing a Ph.D. degree in composition at Louisiana State University, where he studies with Dinos Constantinides. He received a bachelor of music degree from Universidade Estadual do Ceara (Brazil) in the spring of 1996 and a master of music degree from Louisiana State University in the summer of 2000. He also studied composition with Jose Alberto Kaplan, Vanda Ribeiro Costa and Tarcisio Jose de Lima, in Brazil.
