There was a time when the coaches held the hammer. Players fell in line because they had no choice. The coach was the one with the secure job. He called the shots. Now, the players know coaches come and go. They can choose to buy into the coaching philosophy or they can refuse, lose and eventually get somebody new to lead the way.
"Coaches don t seem to have any security," says a former coach and Western Conference scout. "Sometimes coaches are sensitive to that. Therefore, it's important that they get along with their players. That wasn't really a priority in the past."
