Maternal alcohol use continues to affect children, according to a four-state study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Overall rates of fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) ranged from 0.3 to 1.5/1,000 live-born infants in Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, and New York during 1995-1997, according to the CDC (MMWR 51[20]:433-35, 2002).
