How did you come to work in the insurance industry and what did you learn from your first employer?

Having opted out of full-time education after GCSEs, my first job was with Midland Bank in 1987 and I studied for a BTEC National in Business and Finance at night school. I joined Provincial Insurance in 1989 as a claims handler in schemes claims. The focus was on attention to detail, clear paperwork and the need for professional qualifications if you wanted to succeed. I then moved to help set up claims operation Prospero Direct, Provincial's sister company, in 1993.
