MILPITAS, Calif. and Taiwan, May 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall-AsiaNet/ -- Phoenix Technologies Ltd (Nasdaq: PTEC) and OSA Technologies, a subsidiary of Avocent Corporation, will deliver Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) 1.5- and 2.0-compatible products. These products offer the benefits of a standard management protocol and infrastructure to heterogeneous computing environments and enable OEMs and system builders to bring value-added solutions to market quickly.
Phoenix cME TrustedCore Server is the only core system software product that supports the standards and goes far beyond baseline IPMI capability to provide unique extensions for IP network address control and extended system information.
IPMI is an embedded management specification that defines a common and secure interface for monitoring system hardware and sensors, controlling system components, logging important system events, and remotely managing and recovering failed systems. It is typically implemented at the silicon level and is independent of the CPU, OS, BIOS and backplane.
"By combining best-of-breed building blocks from OSA and Phoenix, vendors are assured that a robust IPMI 2.0 manageability subsystem improves their products' reliability, serviceability, usability and manageability," said Mark Lee, President and CEO, OSA Technologies. "Vendors can more easily meet their system management design goals using OSA IPMI v2.0 firmware together with Phoenix cME Server BIOS, accelerating time to market. In addition, OSA and Phoenix are working closely to drive advanced features, including better asset management and remote flash updates."
Promoted by Dell, HP, Intel and NEC, IPMI standardizes the way embedded management subsystems communicate with systems such as the CPU, other embedded management subsystems and remote management applications. IPMI also offers enhanced manageability for products that support the AdvancedTCA initiative.
RHK, an industry research firm, recently valued the AdvancedTCA market at $3.7B by 2007 (RHK study: http://www.advancedtca.org). Since 1998, more than 160 vendors have adopted IPMI, making it a market-proven standard.
