SEOUL, June 1 Asia Pulse - The commission of labor, management and government on Monday agreed to create a conference of leaders of the respective organizations in order to normalize its operation, which has been crippled since one of the nation's two umbrella trade unions withdrew from the commission in 1999.
The leaders meeting will involve the chairmen of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU), the Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU), the Korean Employers Association and the Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the labor minister and the chairman of the tripartite commission. The leaders will hold their first session on Friday.
The agreements were made at a forum on "labor-management relations of dialogue and co-existence" at Cheong Wa Dae, presided over by President Roh Moo-hyun and attended by representatives of the two umbrella union groups, employers' organizations and government officials.
