SYDNEY, June 1 Asia Pulse - Fish producer Australis Aquaculture Ltd is set to place fresh barramundi on the plates of US diners by exporting live fish in huge quantities to the A$55 billion (US$39 billion) American seafood market.
Since March the company has been exporting South Australian-bred barramundi fingerlings - infant fish - to the United States, with the first of the fast-growing fish expected to hit US menus from September 2004.
The company, which will launch an initial public offer (IPO) this week, said it was stocking enough fish to produce 360 tonnes a year initially, with the aim of building up to 700 tonnes per annum.
