NORSELIGHT, the Norwegian marine searchlight manufacturer, anticipates a surge of demand for its products as shipowners are forced by the ISPS code to tighten up on board security.
The company, based at Halden, which makes floodlights and navigation light controllers, has already seen 15% to 20% growth this year as customers look to comply with stringent new marine security codes.
Founded in 1918, the southern Norway business started manufacturing floodlights in 1982 and is focused on catering for the marine market, although in recent years it has seen more interest from the security sector in both Europe and the US.
'It is not a market we are chasing, but we are seeing increased interest for our products for border patrol installations,' says company spokesman Ulf Jonassen.
In March the company announced two big searchlight contracts with Oslo shipowner Leif Hoegh and Neptune Orient Line of Singapore, together worth almost Nkr3m ($440,000).
Norselight is required to deliver 116 searchlights to the group worth around Nkr25,000 a package as both shipowners look to meet new ship security specifications.
