THE future may be uncertain for Norway's shipping industry, but old hands at Bergesen intend to turn in some sound profit and growth for their new foreign owners come what may.
Straight-talking managing director and chief executive Jan Hakon Pettersen holds no illusions that the long-term future of his company lies overseas.
But he has put down some bold aims for the dry bulk and tanker fleet over the coming decade.
For one thing, Bergesen intends to double its fleet and its equity over the next five years, with financial growth pegged at 10% annually.
And, the company has enshrined this goal alongside its high-sounding mission statement to be 'the benchmark for shipping, providing assurance for our customers and restoring shipping as a leading world industry'.
It is a bold ambition for a fleet that operates 75 vessels, with a further seven newbuildings already booked.
