Byline: VLCC sales steal the show with Taiwanese Maritime Transport snapping up two resales for $72m en bloc, writes David Osler
WITH much of Europe enjoying a long weekend, the sales and purchase market has been notably quiet.
Most of the action that has been seen has been on the tanker side of things, especially when it comes to very large crude carriers.
Taiwanese Maritime Transport led the way with the resale of Neon and Ness, two 286,000 dwt, 1990-built sisters to Sinotrans. TMT bought the ships for $32.5m each from World-Wide Shipping, and are passing them on for $34m a throw without so much as having taken delivery.
The word is that the vessels are going to be managed by the recently founded Sinotrans'MOL joint venture. As several brokers point out, the price looks a tad low compared with the recent sale of Musashi Spirit (280,654 dwt, built 1993) for $43m.
Indian buyers have reportedly picked up the double-hull Tribute (149,000 dwt, built 1996) for $44m and the older Transit (135,000 dwt, built 1982) for $13m.
