ELECTION officials who were supposed to transport the election returns from Cotabato City to Manila yesterday failed to get commercial plane tickets, further delaying the resolution of the canvass for the 12th senatorial slot.
Sen. Robert Barbers and Sen. Rodolfo Biazon are contesting the last senatorial berth.
Commission on Elections Chair Benjamin Abalos said the election officials, "apparently accompanied by representatives of the different parties," were already at the airport yesterday morning when they learned that there were no more plane tickets available.
"I have asked the military to appropriate a C-130 transport plane [for the purpose]. It's a big plane, everyone could be accommodated," Abalos said.
As a result of the delay, the senatorial canvass at the Philippine International Convention Center was tentatively reset for today as the military plane was expected to arrive yesterday afternoon from Cotabato City.
