Dell, which began as a $1,000 startup, is on top of the world. The US technology company
recently edged out Hewlett-Packard in shipping the largest number of computers worldwide.
According to IDC, an IT research firm, Dell shipped 7.7 million PCs in the first quarter of this
year, cornering 18.6 percent of the global market, followed by HP at 15.6 percent and IBM, a
distant third, at 5.5 percent.
