Summertime in Washington is waning. It was a typical summer for the most part -- stifling heat combined with 95% humidity, swarms of tourists from around the world visiting our national monuments ... and interns.
From Capitol Hill to the White House and everywhere in between, Washington is alive with the buzz of college students who have given up their summers to work and learn in one of DC's many internship programs.
Like so many other organizations, National Right to Life offers an internship program for students from across the country. Every year, NRLC hosts anywhere from 8-12 pro-lifers who work closely with our staff on a wide variety of projects. While the work of an intern is, at times, not the most glamorous, these dedicated young men and women tackle the task at hand and provide enormous support for NRLC staff.
In addition to providing support for the staff, summer interns are required to attend weekly seminars given by NRLC staff which expose them to individual departments and the issues each department is designed to work on.
Established in the 1980s, the internship program provides a training ground for college students who want to continue their pro-life work beyond graduation. Many past NRLC interns, including medical ethics director Burke Balch, former media relations director Michele Arocha Allen, and field coordinator Holly Miller (to name a few) have come back after graduation to join the NRLC staff full-time.
What follows is an introduction to the young men and women who have been working closely with our staff this summer--some of whom you may have talked to on the phone if you called the NRLC offices.
