Govt to check hours worked by ER doctors

The Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry this summer will inspect about 500 hospitals offering emergency care at which working conditions for doctors on night shifts are suspected to violate the Labor Standards Law, ministry sources said Thursday.

This is the first time health authorities will launch a large-scale probe of overtime work by doctors assigned to such tasks as emergency medical care for children.

The ministry's Labor Standards Bureau will implement measures to ensure these medical institutions obey the Labor Standards Law, which …
