Remember when a 250 single was considered a perfectly good street bike, with plenty of power to accelerate into traffic and move along with the masses on the freeway? Lots of us do.
This nice little Savage two-stroke, in full street and trail regalia, was a good example. As a matter of fact, it came out about the same time as Yamaha's DT1 and Kawasaki's 250E, also two-stroke 250 singles with knobbyish tires, upswept exhaust and pretensions at being good woodsers. Eight hundred bucks and the affluent high-school kid or working college student had a bike that would get him, or her, to school and back, around town, and provide some fun out in the local state or national forest.
