The Washington State University Board of Regents changed leadership at the May 7 meeting held in Pullman, Wash. Rafael Stone was confirmed as new president of the Board of Regents.
Stone is a partner in the law firm Foster Pepper & Shefelman in Seattle, and chairs the firm's Institutional Pensions Investing and Operations.
Elizabeth A. Cowles was named vice president. She is chairperson of Cowles Publishing Company, where she oversees several divisions of the company, including three television stations, a film and television production studio, an insurance agency serving 10 states and a retail development in downtown Spokane.
William Marler, the president in 2003-04, was reappointed by Gov. Gary Locke in 2003, and will serve until 2009. He is a partner in the law firm of Marler Clark in Seattle.
Student regent Angela Cox, of Anchorage, Alaska, attended her last meeting as the student regent. Her appointment ends May 31. She was appointed to the Board in 2003 as the sixth student representative. A replacement has not yet been named.
