A GARETH JOHNSON goal early in the second half steadied Down's nerves as they comfortably overcame New York with ten points to spare in the Bronx last night.

In a city known for its generosity, the hosts behaved in kind, shooting 10 first half widesas they let the visitors off the hook.

Down never found their top form in the first half, but they still kept the scoreboard tickingover, while Bonny Kennedy's goal kept New York in the hunt.

The Ulster side would have felt grateful to be going into the break with a 0-13 to 1-3 …
