THOSE ADVERTISEMENTS in the weekend newspapers for "adventure holidays" seem to grow in number; they appear also to offer a widening range of--shall we call them energetic?--pursuits to which a couple of weeks can be put. These include white-water rafting; canoeing in the wilds; underwater exploration and the investigation of caves; hang-gliding; variations of mountaineering, rock climbing and skiing; parachuting and bungee-jumping. I have seen no offers yet for tight-wire walking across Niagara Falls, or for ten intimate minutes with a tiger in his cage. But give them time--give them time.
Such craving for danger--even for partly simulated or synthetic ...
