A corrosion problem involving the tailgate supports has prompted General Motors Corp. to recall millions of Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac full-size pickup trucks. The recall involves approximately 3.7 million pickups sold in the U.S. and 325,000 sold in Canada.
The existing galvanized-steel tailgate support cables could corrode and snap when objects are placed on the gate. If that happens, the tailgate would drop an additional 10 degrees, landing on the bumper and allowing cargo to tumble out. GM has received 134 reports of minor injuries related to the problem. There have been no crashes or fatalities.
