Chilean fish exports totaled US$648 million in the first quarter of this year, an increase of 15.7 percent compared to the same period in 2003, when exports totaled US$506 million, the National Fishing Society (SONAPESCA) reported.
SONAPESCA said the increase was mainly due to an improvement on exports of canned fish. As an example, exports of canned jack mackerel increased 33.4 percent in the period.
