Solomon Islands is reported to be rated as one of the most risky investment destinations in the world.
Governor of Central Bank Rick Hou says there are reasons why major investors are holding back on their investment plans no matter how hard the country had tried to lure them.
Mr Hou, who was speaking at the launch of the Central Bank 2003 Annual Report this morning, said political and social instability, the land tenure system and compensation are among the many investment hurdles.
They include tedious investment procedures, poor infrastructure, unreliable utility services, unreliable land, sea and air transportation and the cost of starting up a business in the country is very high.
Mr Hou said even the department dealing with investment is near dysfunctional. He said Solomon Islands must do more if it wants to reverse the description.
