JOHOR BAHARU, May 12 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's seriousness in protecting intellectual property rights has netted seizures totalling RM217.9 million, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry Parliamentary Secretary Hoo Seong Chang said today.
He said the properties, belonging to local and foreign businessmen, were confiscated in 29,904 intellectual property rights infringement cases between April 1999 and April this year.
Value of the seized goods and the number of cases showed the strict enforcement of nine related Acts by the ministry's enforcement division and the police, he said.
During the same period, 289 people were detained for breaching provisions in the Acts, he said.
