(From Turkish Daily News)
Briton Detta Regan dreamed about it, the European Union and the British Council lent their support and in the end, a total of 250 women set out for peace. They crossed deserts, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan on their bicycles and chanted the slogan: "Follow the women! Pedaling for Women!"
Within the scope of the peace project, hundreds of women from every corner of the world rode on their bicycles in order to consolidate with the women of the Middle East by riding through Beirut, Damascus and Amman
'Follow the women'
In the Middle East, people salute each other by saying, "Selam" (hello). Selam in Arabic language means peace; however, it is strange that peace couldn't be restored in the Middle East for hundreds of years.
Within the chaotic atmosphere in the region, something different took place in Beirut. A total of 250 women from 23 countries said, "Selam" and set out pedaling for peace. It is a project called "Follow the women."
The project was the dream of Regan, who conducts international youth projects. Many people were saying it was only a dream but Detta believed in her dream and exerted every effort to realize her project with financial support from Euro-Med, Europe-Mediterranean Partnership Fund within the European Union. Regan found sponsors to support her project and contacted women from 23 countries. She realized her dream.
