There are two main superstitions you mainly hear about. First, there's the one about drivers not liking the color green. The second one is that drivers don't like having peanuts or peanut shells anywhere near them at the track.
I've heard that Dale Earnhardt was one of those drivers who would really lose it if someone brought peanuts around. Some poor woman worked for a peanut company, and part of her job at the track was to take free samples to all the teams' haulers. She was standing outside Earnhardt's hauler one day when he walked in and saw the peanuts laying on a counter. Supposedly, he opened the door of his hauler, threw the peanuts out into the middle of the garage area and let it be known he didn't want to see any more of them in his transporter. It's safe to say the lady avoided the No. 3 hauler from that day on.
I don't really understand the superstition about drivers not liking the color green, but I've heard there are guys who refuse to sit in a green racecar, wear green clothing or have green anywhere near them. I guess those guys don't ever carry any cash on them. That must be tough when they hit a fast-food drive-through. "Yeah, I'd like a burger, fries and a soda. By the way, will you take a check?" I don't buy into that superstition. Bobby Labonte won the NASCAR Winston Cup championship a few years back in a green car, so it sure didn't seem to hurt him any.
