At first Karen Black had no intention of playing Gypsy 83's Bambi LeBleau, a small-town highway-lounge singer who threw in the towel after a successful New York career. "I thought it was an ironic parody of me," says Black, veteran of more than 100 feature films, including Five Easy Pieces, Nashville, Airport 1975, and Trilogy of Terror. But unlike Bambi, whom the movie finds singing in a roadside dive, Black notes, "I have kept working, even if I've thrown off the big movies I used to do. I still have three or four wonderful little movies coming out."
