On any given race day, there are only 43 men who can call themselves Nextel Cup crew chiefs. Some chiefs are well-known among NASCAR fans, but others are not--even some among the top 10 in points.

Maybe you've heard of these guys, but how much do you really know about the crew chiefs who are quietly getting the job done?

Take Larry Carter, who joined Penske Racing at the start of this season. When his driver, Rusty Wallace, ended his losing streak at 105 races at Martinsville, Carter topped the thank you list.
