Twin-postors? Not these guys
The Minnesota Twins have not been kidnapped. It only seems that way.
Center fielder Lew Ford is the new toast of the Twin Cities. Catcher Henry Blanco, designated hitter Jose Offerman and outfielder Michael Ryan have gone from zeros to heroes almost overnight.
The Twins looked cursed at the start of the season, opening 3-4 against the Tigers and Indians while losing center fielder Torii Hunter, catcher Joe Mauer and designated Matt LeCroy to injuries. Their replacements, it turned out, were anything but Twin-postors.
The team rallied with an 8-1 run, vaulting back to the top of the American League Central behind players many fans don't even recognize. "It is everything you hope for when you have injuries--that people who get an opportunity come in and produce," general manager Terry Ryan says.
The Twins knew they had more depth entering this season than in years past. Their ability to withstand injuries is further testament to the strength of this low-revenue franchise.
