With one event coming shortly after the other, Vietnam celebrates the 29th anniversary of the Reunification Day on April 30 and the 50th anniversary of the historic victory in Dien Bien Phu on May 7. Dien Bien Phu ended French colonial rule in Vietnam and the fall of the Saigon regime brought to a close the long years of U.S. aggression.
