SEOUL, May 3 Asia Pulse - South Korea paid over US$1 billion for the rights to use overseas intellectual properties in the first quarter this year, the highest figure ever on a quarterly basis, the Bank of Korea (BOK) said Monday.
The total cost that South Korea incurred in the January-March period for the right to use the properties, including the cost of technology transfer, was $US1.16 billion, up 20.7 per cent year-on-year, according to BOK statistics.
The figure accounts for 32.1 per cent of the total cost incurred last year, the central bank added.
