TAIPEI, May 3 Asia Pulse - Diplomatic authorities from Taiwan and Japan signed a pact Friday to increase the number of Japanese cities included in Taiwan-Japan bilateral weekly flight services, according to a report by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).
Under the new agreement - endorsed by Hsu Shui-teh, chairman of the Association of East Asian Relations (AEAR) and Reijiro Hattori, chairman of the Japan Interchange Association (JIA) - Sendai, a city in northeastern Japan popular with tourists, and Hiroshima in the Kansai area have been added to the existing list of Japanese cities operating weekly flights to and from Taiwan, MOFA officials said.
With the inclusion of Sendai and Hiroshima, the number of Japanese cities operating regular weekly flights to and from Taiwan has increased to seven from the previous five - Tokyo, Kyoto, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Sapporo.
Sendai and Hiroshima had been operating only irregular charter flights to and from Taiwan prior to the renewal of the bilateral agreement.
