SEOUL, May 3 Asia Pulse - Hutchison Whampoa (HKSE:2528), Hong Kong's largest business group, is expected to buy about US$1 billion worth of mobile phones from LG Electronics Co. (KSE:066570), a senior government official said Sunday.

Hutchison Whampoa chairman Li Ka-shing disclosed the company's purchase plan to Finance and Economy Minister Lee Hun-jai when Lee met with the business tycoon, said the official at the ministry.

Lee visited Hong Kong last week to participate in a road show aimed at attracting foreign direct investment to South Korea.

The firm's purchase plan is seen as its intention to use LG's handsets as core products for its third-generation mobile service in Hong ...
