NOW that "American Idol" can be seen locally on Star World on its third year, viewers here finally have a chance to understand why the talent search has been so popular, and why it has successfully launched the careers of so many heretofore unknown singers.

Making it
On the local entertainment scene, making it is sometimes more a question of good looks than genuine performing talent. On "American Idol," however, the best-looking young singers are among the first to get eliminated.
