(From Philippine Daily Inquirer)
Byline: Nestor U. Torre
ON MAY 21, it shall have been 13 years since film master Lino Brocka died in a car crash that tragically put a stop to his local and international movie career's upward trajectory.
Since Lino's death anniversary was hardly observed last year, and many young people today don't know much about him, some of his friends decided to meet earlier this month to honor him with their fond recollections, and to coordinate efforts to remind people of his gift to Philippine and world cinema on the 13th anniversary of his passing this month.
Lino's friends included Behn Cervantes, Haydee Yorac, Au Cobarrubias, Laurice Guillen, Mitch Valdes, Tommy Abuel, Lollie Mara, Norma Japitana, Dulce and this writer.
Favorite hangout
We met at our "mature barkada's" favorite hangout, Chito and Au Cobarrubias' well-appointed and welcoming home, and toasted Lino with wine and potluck culinary surprises that kept us bubbly and full of bonhomie for hours on end.
