A DISMAYED Philippine National Police chief Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. yesterday blamed politicians for most of the violent incidents in the run up to this year's elections.
"Our only problem is the politicians themselves; it's they who create trouble," Ebdane told reporters in an ambush interview.
PNP records showed that at least 11 politicians have been killed and six wounded in at least 69 election-related violence.
Ebdane said security measures have been in place as early as December, the start of the election period. But warring politicians apparently do not care, he said.
"There are politicians who do not want to sign (peace) covenants," he said. "There also those who like to enter into a covenant only after a follower of the other side has met an accident." But Ebdane refused to name the politicians.
