MILITANT workers will march, join caravans and hold protest rallies in key urban centers nationwide to mark Labor Day today and press for a wage hike.
But if the working class won't get a pay increase, it can at least enjoy a free concert.
A star-studded concert billed "Pasasalamat ni Pangulong Gloria sa mga Manggagawang Pilipino" is Ms Macapagal's Labor Day gift to workers. She will attend the 7 p.m. concert at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Malate, Manila.
The Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP), on the other hand, said it planned to present a 10-point package composed of non-wage demands to President Macapagal-Arroyo.
But its spokesperson Alex Aguilar said it would mobilize "tens of thousands" of workers for the May 1 rallies. "The strength of workers is in numbers, which is why we are going out to gather peacefully ... and air our demands to ease the workers' plight," Aguilar said.
