RAMIL Bisera added his name to the long roster of golf champions from Davao when he survived a determined bid by Robert Pactolerin yesterday to capture the PGAP-Julio Cup golf championship in wire-to-wire fashion at the Villamor Golf Club course.
The longshot Bisera closed with a three-over-par 75, but Pactolerin, the many-time Philippine Masters champion on a course where he is considered king, just failed to capitalize.
Bisera totaled 285 for the P120,000 top prize while Pactolerin, who carded a 73 for 286, settled for P80,000 from the P1 million pot staked by Korean patron Lee Sung Ho, better known as Julio to his friends in the local pro golf ranks.
Pactolerin had actually taken a two-stroke lead with an eagle 2 on the 10th hole after trailing by four shots earlier. But the odds swung into Bisera's side when it mattered most.
A three-putt miscue by Pactolerin on the 12th and Bisera's birdie on the 13th pulled the two even again.
