THE PROSTATE cancer that struck Alyansa ng Pag-Asa standard-bearer Raul Roco eight years ago has recurred but appropriate measures have been taken to arrest it.

The 62-year-old former education secretary yesterday released to reporters the medical bulletin on his health issued by his doctors in the United States on April 23, confirming publicly for the first time the recurrence of the once-malignant illness for which he was operated on in 1996.

Roco, at a news conference at his home in La Vista, Quezon City, denied he was hiding anything about his real medical condition.

Roco was an out-patient at the Christus St. Patrick Hospital, an institution owned by nuns which is a two-hour drive from Houston, Texas.

Explaining his treatment, Roco said the "intelligent medicine" injected into his blood stream had killed the cancer-causing cells, and repaired the lesions in his bones, where they were located.

"Until now, this medicine is still fighting the illness in my body. But (my body) won already," Roco said.
