CONFETTI and balloons fell continuously from some buildings as Bangon Pilipinas standard-bearer Eduardo Villanueva staged a rally on Ayala Avenue in Makati to refute opinion polls showing him running last among five presidential candidates.
"How can we be defeated? They (rivals) are spending billions but they do not have passionate people like you," Villanueva told an upbeat crowd.
Police estimated the crowd at 10,000, but organizers placed it at 80,000 to 100,000 at 3:15 p.m.
"The politicians' billions would not mean anything on election day... unless there is massive cheating. I hope those who are planning to cheat will change their minds once they see these people," Villanueva said in an interview after the rally at the country's financial district. …
